we're still looking for Sugarfoot
I have flyers up
sheriff
brand inspector
and locals all on the lookout
but no sign of her
Wade rode to the water tank last night
no sign in the open flats
and none new at the tank
I think she's trying to get back
to the area she was originally loose in
although there's many fences between
here and there
so we keep looking
I'm beyond frustrated
I'm sad and pissed
all the time I've taken with that horse
maybe I should have just tied her down
and done things old school cowboy style
and we wouldn't have this problem
but who knows
I second guess myself constantly
I've literally been pacing the floor over this
all I can do at this point
is ride out every day
hope she doesn't get that rope caught somewhere
and hope she shows her face
it may be a while
IF it rains
there will be more water in the tanks
if it doesn't
it'll dry up and maybe she'll show herself
All I can do is keep on
keepin on

You will find her again, boy that is one wild soul.
What is some of her history again, I dont think I was blogging when you got her. Is she a BLM mustang?
No, we think she's a mustang out of NV, a Dann Sisters mustang (google for more info) and was rounded up and placed in a rescue down here, that went under and the owner was charged with animal cruelty and went to jail. I think she got away from that rescue and ran wild at least 3 yrs, maybe more. She was loose and being fed by security at a new water treatment plant nearby for a year. Numerous attempts to catch her failed until I built a trap pen.
I'd like to build a trap pen now, but with all the cows out, I'd just catch a herd of cattle. It's a pretty big area she's in, miles to ride. I ride a 10 mile loop and that doesn't cover all of it. LOTS of places for her to hide and that's what she's doing. I keep checking gates and cattle guards, but she has yet to cross them.
Mikey , I just don't know what to say , keeping a good thought and prayer that this ends well for you and Sugarfoot , I really wissh I could help , but way too far away . So I will keep sending good thoughts and prayers, and a hug for whenever you need it
I know its hard but stay optimistic - getting down will just compound things. We are all pulling for you - you gave that mare your best, for I'd say 99% of cowgirls that's a given I'd expect no less.
Worry about different training methods when you catch her - please don't spend the weekend second guessing yourself, you'll just end up feeling worse than you do now - just focus on finding her. We all have faith in you.
Woulda, shoulda, coulda...gees Mikey. How about this. You tried your level best. Period.
Mikey, your training was working on her; look what you accomplished, and her taking off just proves you didn't break her spirit. Perhaps this is one horse that is destined to become a legend, the kind you see skylined at dusk on some ridge before she vanishes again....that picture is kinda ruined by that lead rope dragging though! If I was closer I'd come and help in the search party. Maybe you could contact the BLM for your area and see if they can spot her from a helicopter, or do you know anyone who has a light aircraft that could make a few passes over to try and spot her?
Old cowboy methods failed with plenty of horses too. If any one can do it it will be you but the question becomes, can anyone do it?
It's kind of nice to have a purpose for going out riding.
Thinking about you and hoping that wild girl comes to her senses. Try to get some rest for yourself. Carmon
That is some big country and a little mare who has a lot of experience surviving. I know you are really worried about that lead rope-but she is wily and has obviously learned how to travel with it dragging...most likely she has broken it by now.
I'm just worried about you guys when you find her. She has proven that she will defend herselve-violently. Be careful.:)
Good luck Mikey I feeel your pain. If you are ever able to harness that energy she will be the horse of a lifetime.
Tuning in hoping for good news. You are doing all you can. I think your gentling methods will pay off when you find her. Good luck. Again, wish I was close enough to help.
mikey, feel good!! you have gone above and beyond. you are good people. what happens now, even if she doesnt meet a good end, you have nothing to be sorry for, nothing to feel bad about. i am checking this blog so often hoping for good news. you and your family are such inspiration to me. i think i said this when you worked with lance to catch her, but you guys are what is great in America.
Ah yes I have heard of the Dann sisters, I dont know if I read it in a mag, or seen it on TV??But I did hear about them and their problems.
I am still praying for you and Sugarfoot.
You'll find her eventually! Hang in there! Will send positive thoughts your way!
Wish I could just give ya a hug, Mikey. I don't know what else to say. Just remember that no matter what happens, you have done your best by her.
(((HUGS)))

Well, her history explains a lot, doesn't it? And, further supports the gentle way you were working with her. The old school 'breaking' methods were never a good idea. If she was treated cruelly before, you just don't know what may have triggered her when you had her out on a lead that brought back memories too painful for her to deal with. She's worth the effort you're putting in Mikey and although she's likely going to be your toughest challenge, I still think she'll eventually be your best, most trusted horse because of the care and love you're giving her. Don't give up hope. Keep your eye on the prize. And, I'll be praying for her & you.
Hang in there, girl! Good thoughts for a happy ending coming from Texas.

Hang in there, You'll find her........
I think those old time methods made Sugarfoot the mess she is. Without trust you just have a time-bomb.
Hang in there, I'm sure she'll make it back home to you sooner than later.
I know how frustrated you must be, and second-guessing yourself at every turn. You'll find her.
I checked in this morning (I only have email/internet at work), CERTAIN I'd see the report of Sugarfoot's capture - oh lord, girl, you've really had a time with this one, haven't you? My thoughts are with you as you search for your errant girl. Good luck!
